The Main Characteristics Of Corrugated Boxes

Top performance indicators for corrugated boxes and cartons

1. Quantitative (Basis Weight)

Quantitative, also known as "gram weight", refers to the weight of corrugated boxes per square meter, unit: gram/square meter (g/㎡). The quantification of corrugated boxes determines the weight of corrugated boxes and cartons. Generally, the following formula can be used for budgeting:

Quantitative weight of double-sided single corrugated carton = weight of surface paper + weight of inner paper + weight of corrugated paper × flute rate + dry weight of adhesive

Quantitative weight of double-sided double-corrugated carton = surface paper weight + inner paper weight + sandwich paper weight + layer corrugated paper weight × corresponding flute rate + layer corrugated paper weight × corresponding flute rate + adhesive dry weight

The dry weight of double-sided single-corrugated box adhesive is generally about 12 g/㎡, and the dry weight of double-sided double-corrugated box adhesive is generally about 24 g/㎡.

2. Bursting strength BST

Bursting strength is the static splitting strength in kilopascals (Kpa). Bursting strength can be measured by a bursting strength tester. The bursting strength of materials such as corrugated base paper and cartons meet the relevant standards. The bursting strength of corrugated boxes can be estimated from the materials used. It is equal to the sum of the bursting strengths of each layer of cardboard multiplied by a coefficient of 0.95, and Corrugated layers are irrelevant. For example, the bursting strength of single corrugated cardboard and double corrugated cardboard are calculated as follows:

Single corrugated cardboard BST = (face paper BST + inner paper BST) × 0.95

Double corrugated cardboard BST = (face paper BST + sandwich BST + inner paper BST) * 0.95

Since there is space between each layer of corrugated cardboard, the cushioning ability is increased, but it is easier to be broken individually. Therefore, in the above formula, the sum of the bursting strength of each layer of cardboard multiplied by a coefficient of 0.95 is the result. consistent with practice. The bursting strength has nothing to do with the corrugated layer because: on the one hand, the bursting strength of the corrugated layer is much lower than that of the boxboard, and on the other hand, since the bursting strength is the static splitting resistance strength, the buffer of the corrugated layer is greater, and then greatly Decrease its bursting strength so that it can be ignored.

3. Breakthrough strength PET (Puncture Energy Test)

Breakthrough strength is the dynamic splitting strength in joules (J). It truly reflects the impact of corrugated cardboard and cartons. The determination of breaking strength is more complicated than that of bursting strength, because it is not only related to the boxboard paper, but also related to the corrugated layer. The bursting strength and the bursting strength are linearly related. In actual estimation, the approximate bursting strength can be obtained according to the bursting strength. The calculation formula is as follows: PET=0.0054BST+2.1635

4. ECT (Edge Crush Test of Corrugated Fiberboard) and RCT (Ring Crush Test)

The edge compressive strength is the edge compressive strength of corrugated cardboard, in N/m (N/m). Ring compressive strength RCT mainly refers to the transverse compressive strength of boxboard and corrugated paper, in cattle/meter (N/m). The edge compressive strength of corrugated cardboard is related to the ring compressive strength RCT of containerboard and corrugated paper. The calculation formula is as follows:

Single corrugated cardboard ECT = surface paper RCT + inner paper RCT + corrugated paper RCT × flute rate

Double corrugated cardboard ECT = surface paper RCT + inner paper RCT + sandwich paper RCT + layer corrugated paper RCT × corresponding flute rate + layer corrugated paper RCT × corresponding flute rate.
